Tailors Bunion Bunionette

A Tailor's Bunion is also referred to as a bunionette. It is a bump located on the 5th metatarsal bone at the base of the little toe. Its symptoms are similar to those of a bunion with redness, swelling and pain. Patients often discover the bump when their shoes feel too tight along the sides, rubbing the fifth metatarsal and irritating the soft tissues.

Treatment options are many and varied:

  • shoe modifications
  • padding
  • anti-inflammatory medications (NSAIDs)
  • icing
  • cortisone injections
  • orthotics

If none of the above treatment methods have diminished the pain associated with a Tailor's Bunion, then surgery should be considered. Discuss all of your options with Dr. Rosena at your next visit, to determine the best course of action for you and the severity of your condition.
