Ankle Stability

Ankle Instability results from recurrent sprains where ligaments have stretched out over time, perhaps even torn, and muscles around the ankle are weakened. You may have experienced rolling your ankle repeatedly or feeling like your ankle will give out. Individuals with this condition report chronic pain, swelling, and a desire for support around their ankle.

Treatment is aimed at strengthening, re-training the tissues, reducing inflammation, and improving balance. Bracing, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), wearing proper footwear with adequate support, and various forms of therapy can help significantly. In severe cases, surgery may be required to repair and reconstruct the ligaments.
